Why Is Wheatgrass Juice Powder So Good?

Liana Moynier

Wheatgrass has long been a staple of the health food world, touted for benefits ranging from increased energy to aiding in weight loss, detoxifying the body and even boosting immune function. While taking a shot of wheatgrass juice every day is great, it can be hard to find the time to either juice a bunch of wheatgrass yourself or get to the nearest juice counter. The solution? Wheatgrass juice powder. Made from dehydrated and dried wheatgrass and ground into powder form, wheatgrass juice powder is easy to add to food and drinks and maintains all the nutritional properties of wheatgrass juice. Read on to find out why this powder is so good for the body.

Aids in Digestion, Detoxing and Weight Loss

Wheatgrass is a green grass that has been shown to improve digestive function. It contains high levels of essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are absorbed by the digestive system to improve its function, and can help stave off hunger cravings hat are usually your body’s way of searching for nutrients it needs when you aren’t actually lacking calories. Additionally, wheatgrass is rich in enzymes that help break down food and improve your metabolic efficiency. This, in turn, helps the body rid itself of toxins. Wheatgrass is also high in fiber, which can help relieve constipation.

Great Source of Chlorophyll

Wheatgrass juice powder contains high amounts of chlorophyll, which is responsible for its rich green color. Chlorophyll increases red blood cells in the body (and therefore the oxygen supply in the blood), as well as boosts adrenal function, which in turn boosts energy. Chlorophyll also helps the body naturally balance its own pH and helps prevent oxidative stress, which in part can stem from many of the processed foods in a typical American diet. Chlorophyll can also boost immune function and stimulate circulation.

Cancer Prevention and Antioxidants

Wheatgrass has been shown to both prevent and inhibit certain types of cancer, including oral cancer. This is again partially due to chlorophyll, which helps to more richly oxygenate the blood and thereby create an environment that is hard for cancer to thrive in.  Wheatgrass juice powder also contains flavonoids and vitamins C, A and E, which all have antioxidant properties—scavenging the free radicals that cause cancer and aging. These elements also help reduce inflammation in the body, which generally contributes to the root cause of all diseases, including cancer.

How It Tastes

Wheatgrass has a notoriously vegetal, “green” taste. While some people enjoy its flavor, others find it overwhelming and even bitter. Often, the flavor just takes getting used to! Too much can cause nausea or constipation, which is why it’s important to use just a little at a time. An easy way to mask the flavor? Mix it into a fruit smoothie, a sweeter fruit juice like orange, pineapple or apple, or even eat a piece of fruit as a “chaser” after you take it. Some people like to use lemon to offset the green flavor as well.

By consuming wheatgrass juice powder, you are receiving all the nutrients and benefits of freshly juiced wheatgrass in a more convenient package. The powdered form of wheatgrass juice can be stored for much longer, is easier to transport and just a little goes a long way. About a tablespoon of wheatgrass juice powder added daily to a couple ounces of water, juice or a smoothie is all you need.
