What Does This Green Powder Have To Do With Wellness?

Chlorella is an ingredient that toes the line between food and supplement. An algae native to Asia that is related to spirulina, chlorella's popularity in recent years has grown due to claims that it can be everything from a nutrient dense food source to a supplement that can rid the body of toxic metals.

As a nutritionist, I find chlorella particularly intriguing. The facts that it may be a sustainable food source for our future and can relieve some of the digestive issues common to our modern culture are only a couple of the many reasons it's of interest to wellness professionals. We'll look at some of the broad benefits of chlorella; for an in-depth look at what chlorella is and why its industry is growing, read this article.

Health Benefits: What Does Chlorella Do For Your Body?

Whether you want to lose weight or recover better from exercise, chlorella is indeed effective in regards to the claims made about it. Some of the many advantages of chlorella include:

Let's examine how you can integrate chlorella in your wellness routine so that you get as many of its benefits as possible!

How Do I Use Chlorella?

There are two ways to purchase chlorella: as a powder or as a pill. Which way is right for you in order to experience its health benefits? Both forms can be integrated into your wellness routine, and both have their merits. The following information should help you decide which will coincide better to the wellness practices you already employ. You may even decide that both forms are good choices for you!

When to Use Chlorella Pills:

  • Carry them with you to take when eating meals high in mercury, such as sushi.
  • When feeling like you might be catching a cold, take chlorella pills for an immunity boost.
  • Swallow chlorella pills in the morning to take advantage of its energy-providing vitamin B.

How to Use Chlorella Powder:

  • Add a spoonful of powder to your morning smoothie for extra protein, or to an afternoon smoothie for an energy boost.
  • Add it to a face mask to help with acne, dry skin or oily skin.
  • Make “bliss balls” with cacao, nuts, seeds and/or dried fruit for an on-the-go nutrient-dense snack in between meals.

Potential Side Effects

As with any natural product, chlorella does have potential side effects. Thankfully, they are not common! In rare conditions, chlorella can become infected with a virus. When this happens, the virus can be transmitted to humans who ingest the infected chlorella. The best way to prevent this is to purchase chlorella from a reputable source.
